GoodLot Farmstead Brewing Co.

GoodLot Farmstead Brewing Co.

What started as a hops farm in 2009, evolved eight years later into the GoodLot Farmstead Brewing Co., and with that came the need to adapt some of the existing barn buildings.

With sustainability at the forefront, ERA led the renovation of one of the barns on the 28-acre farmstead property, converting the vacant building into a solar-powered brewing facility. The structural stabilization scope included a new concrete perimeter beam, footings, and concrete floor. Once the structure was stabilized, we installed new windows, a vibrant red door, solar panels on the roof, and all necessary brewing equipment. Most of the changes were limited to the interior of the building, ensuring that the building remained legible as a farm out building from the exterior. Given the barn’s proximity to the road and farmhouse, this was a driving principle for our design work.

Most recently, ERA was re-engaged to work with the owners to convert the drive shed into a year-round bottle shop and tasting room — the Oast Barn. Supporting the owners’ eco-forward vision, ERA provided architectural consulting services, coordinating with engineers, building suppliers, and trades, to repurpose salvaged materials and retrofit the existing mass timber structure into an airtight building envelope.

Ultimately, the owners were able to leverage existing assets to draw users to the site, capitalizing on the community’s growing interest supporting local entrepreneurs.
