Wilda Barn

The transformation of an aging barn into a multi-purpose destination

This adaptive reuse project transforms an aging, 2,300-square-foot barn in Prince Edward County into a warm event space for a small meadery looking to host seasonal tastings, community gatherings, and private celebrations. Once an underused agricultural structure, the barn now supports the meadery’s growing role as a local destination, offering a place for people to connect in a setting rich with rural character. ERA was engaged for our ability to breathe new life into older buildings while preserving their charm, ensuring this beloved barn could continue to contribute to the county’s landscape in a meaningful and contemporary way.

Working closely with barn‑salvage experts Trunnel Timber Framing (formerly Treehouse Timberworks), ERA stabilized and refreshed the barn while preserving its rustic spirit. New wood windows, barn doors, and an overhead door now brighten the interior, offering generous views of the rolling landscape beyond. Half of the barn boards were preserved, and replacement boards were selected to weather to the same soft grey patina. New metal roofing was installed with an additional layer of insulation to improve comfort during the cooler shoulder seasons. The existing grade was also levelled to create one accessible, easy‑to‑navigate space.

The renewed barn provides the meadery with a simple, welcoming venue that strengthens its presence in Prince Edward County. Its bright, flexible interior and preserved character create a memorable setting for visitors, deepening their connection to the land and the craft behind the mead. Built through collaboration and a shared appreciation for the barn’s history, the project reflects ERA’s joy in creating places that feel genuine, inviting, and rooted in their surroundings while giving a valued rural structure a meaningful new chapter.
