The Ojibway Club is a rare surviving example of the wooden resort hotel once common in the Muskoka region and along Georgian Bay. In the mid-20th century, this complex of nineteen rustic Shingle Style buildings had been converted to a community centre for the archipelago’s cottagers. The site included a main three-storey hotel structure with a tower and open viewing belvedere in addition to a campus of secondary cottages and other small buildings in fair to poor condition.

ERA was hired by the Ojibway Club to compile an architectural history, prepare a restoration master plan, and provide ongoing consultation through the rehabilitation process. The main building and most of the secondary buildings were extensively conserved, with windows replaced, fire suppression systems installed, and cobblestone chimneys, fireplaces, stairs, and foundations repaired. The material palette was overhauled to reintroduce such items as log railings while meeting current requirements of the Ontario Building Code.
