35 Walmer
En Français >Working together with the owners of 35 Walmer, a considered program of architectural and landscape rehabilitation was developed and led by ERA Architects that worked with the identified heritage features to preserve and renew this iconic architectural asset, designed by prominent Toronto modernist architect Uno Prii.
The project restored the postwar building and landscape to its original design intent, including the upgrading of the existing deteriorated concrete at balconies and shear walls, and select brick replacement at East and West elevations. Additionally, the rehabilitation of the iconic canopy and front entrance storefront glazing were performed for a new life cycle. Careful detailing and colour selection were key aspects to reinstating the original design intent.
In tandem with underground parking garage waterproofing work, the landscape rehabilitation also sought to introduce contemporary upgrades that improved the pedestrian experience, while working to highlight the iconic architecture, including upgraded paving and exterior lighting; enhanced front garden and improved sight lines; and new signage.
