Sophie Kaltenback

Sophie a complété son baccalauréat en architecture à Université de Montréal, dont une année en échange étudiant à l’École nationale d’architecture de Versailles (ENSA-V), en France. Elle termine ensuite sa maîtrise en architecture à Université de Montréal. Son projet final d’étude, coordonné par Claudine Déom et supervisé par Gavin Affleck, portait sur le sujet de la réhabilitation d’un lieu de culte, particulièrement l’église Christ Memorial, conçue en 1965 par Roger d’Astous. La réflexion du projet porte sur la manière de mettre en valeur une église moderne et à grande valeur patrimoniale.

Avant de se joindre à l’équipe d’ERA Architectes, Sophie a travaillé comme inspectrices dans la municipalité de Mont-Saint-Hilaire et dans l’arrondissement du Plateau-Mont-Royal, ou elle a pu faire ses premières expériences dans le domaine de la réglementation municipale. Elle a également effectué un stage de recherche en architecture à la Société québécoise des infrastructures (SQI), afin de mettre en place une méthodologie d’analyse de la valeur patrimoniale des bâtiments du parc immobilier de cet organisme gouvernemental.

Sophie completed her Bachelor of Architecture at Université de Montréal, including a year as an exchange student at École nationale d’architecture de Versailles (ENSA-V), in France. She then completed her master’s degree in architecture at Université de Montréal. Her final study project, coordinated by Claudine Déom and supervised by Gavin Affleck, dealt with the adaptative reuse of a place of worship, specifically Christ Memorial Church, conceived in 1965 by Roger d’Astous. The project’s focus is on how to enhance and to insert a contemporary use to a modern church with great heritage value.

Prior to joining ERA Architects, Sophie worked as an inspector in the municipality of Mont-Saint-Hilaire and in the arrondissement of Plateau-Mont-Royal, where she had her first experiences in the field of municipal regulations. She also completed a research internship in architecture at the Société québécoisedes infrastructures (SQI), in order to set up a methodology for analyzing the heritage value of the buildings in this government agency’s building stock.
