Job Summary

ERA is looking for an Intermediate Architect with heritage expertise for large-scale rehabilitation projects. The position will be based in Montréal. The candidate will partake in all stages of the project including research, heritage analysis, inspections, writing reports, preparation of tender documents (plans and specifications), coordination with other consultants, participation in meetings, problem solving, and site visits. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation projects, in both the public and private sectors, ensuring there’s compliance with standards and regulations for the conservation of built heritage. 
  • Conduct in-depth research on the history and architectural features of heritage building and sites. 
  • Carry out building inspections to assess their condition and recommend appropriate action. 
  • Prepare heritage analysis reports detailing building characteristics and conservation issues. 
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable conservation strategies that support the requalification of heritage buildings while preserving their historical and cultural value 
  • Prepare technical documents for RFPs, including plans and specifications, ensuring that all aspects of the project comply with regulatory requirements and heritage standards. 
  • Coordinate with other consultants, including architects, engineers, art historians, and restoration experts, to ensure an effective interdisciplinary approach. 
  • Actively participate in meetings with clients, stakeholders, and relevant authorities to discuss project progress and resolve technical or coordination issues. 
  • Supervise the implementation of projects on-site, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications, while respecting the budget and deadlines. 
  • Ensure site management and supervision, identifying and resolving technical problems on-site in a timely manner. 
  • Attend internal staff meetings and participates in office events. 
  • Participate in administrative tasks according to the firm’s needs. 
  • Participate in business development activities (e.g., contributing to drafting RFPs) 


Competencies

  • Master’s degree in architecture. 
  • Member of the Québec Order of Architects. 
  • At least 5 years of professional experience as an architect. 
  • Strong interest and significant experience in the conservation of heritage buildings, both in academic and professional settings 
  • In-depth knowledge of architectural standards and construction practices. 
  • Communicates fluently in oral and written French. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and to communicate clearly and concisely with various stakeholders (customers, consultants, authorities, etc.) 
  • Technical proficiency in: AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills. 
  • Experience in managing projects at different stages, from conception 


Assets

  • Member of CAPHC (Canadian Association of Professional Heritage Consultants) or interested in becoming a member. 
  • Post-graduate diploma or other specialized training in heritage conservation. 
  • Good understanding of English.
