This cottage is situated on an outer island of Pointe au Baril in Georgian Bay. ERA was engaged to design renovations to a recently built small cottage and to plan future alterations and additions to the site.
Because of site restrictions, the cottage envelope could not be greatly enlarged. To make the space more usable, the interior was completely redesigned within the original envelope. The building was fully winterized and fitted out with a new loft, a barrel-vaulted ceiling, a stone Rumford fireplace, and millwork using a range of salvaged and new materials,.
Views were reorganized to capture 180 degrees of horizon, and a large deck was designed for child containment and to reveal new views. A dry boathouse was also designed for the property, along with an outdoor shower.
