Max Berg

For his Master’s thesis at the University of Toronto, Max Berg proposed an ambitious adaptive reuse of a 1960’s Toronto district school building. The project operated within the given form of the modernist structure, pursuing a process of intense resurfacing of both exterior and interior planes, using layers of reflective, semi-transparent, and translucent material to create a gradient between the historical and the contemporary.

At ERA, Max continues his interest in the architectural expression of multiple histories, attempting to analyze received conditions and rethink their terms to bring energy and complexity to urban form.
