Recently, Cottage Life Magazine published a feature on Ardshona Cottage, summer home to builder David Ballantine and his family. ERA worked with the family to refurbish their wonderful historic cottage and the surrounding landscape at Pointe au Baril, Ontario.
Throughout the building, several later, discordant interventions were edited, and the layout was altered to improve the flow and accentuate heritage features such as stone hearths. Windows added or altered to capture views and bring in more light. Original materials were repaired and incorporated, with original millwork exposed and refinished, and new cabinetry designed to harmoniously synthesize with the rustic interior.
In addition to covering these types of design details, the Cottage Life article sheds insight on the process of making Ardshona, which involved lots of family collaboration and careful attention to material and design.
Thanks to the Ballantine family for a great project, to Vanessa Farquarson, Virgina Macdonald, and Cottage Life. The article is available on newsstands wherever fine periodicals are sold….
