ERA Architects was recently pleased to sponsor an evening of drinks and hors d’oeuvres to raise funds for the construction of a school in Kenya.

Alec Ring (from our office) and his colleague Karl Sarkis have volunteered a good portion of their time over the last four years to design, fund-raise for, and construct Oleleshwa Primary School through the not-for-profit organization Harambee 4 Humanity. For the last five years, Harambee 4 Humanity has been collaborating with communities in Kenya on sustainable initiatives such as the building of Oleleshwa Primary School, women’s cooperatives, and tree planting programs that all aim to maximize the area’s human and natural resource potential.

To date, over $40,000 has been raised and the first two classrooms have been constructed. With more than 200 students already attending these two classrooms, however, there is a huge demand for additional space to be constructed. All proceeds from the fundraiser are going directly to the continued construction of Oleleshwa Primary School.

The event took place January 24th, 2013, from 6:30-9:30pm at the Shamba space, 48 Yonge Street, #1200.
